Artist's Description
The St. Michael's church is a three-aisled, Gothic brick hall church in Luennenburg Germany, which, due to the steep slope to the south and east, needed a strong foundation in the east. Its columns were largely redesigned from 1894 to 1898, and the resurrection window and candlesticks also date from that time. From the time it was built, 12 consecration crosses can still be seen on the walls, but above all the 18 keystones of the medieval vaults, which are particularly valuable. They show biblical symbols in 3 rows for Christ, Mary and for the duties of the abbot. In 1376 the foundation stone for the lower church and monastery building was laid, in 1388 the convent moved into the monastery complex and used the lower church, which was completed in 1379, for its services until the construction of the upper church was completed in 1418 and this was also consecrated.
