The gondola has just passed under the Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei sospiri) on the Venetian rio di Palazzo and this gave me the inspiration for this suggestive image of what happened to those who passed this bridge. The memories of these people once they have crossed this bridge.
The Bridge of Sighs is a typical Venetian bridge and is located a short distance from Piazza San Marco (San Marco Square). It was built over the Rio di Palazzo connecting, with a double passage, the Doge's Palace to the New Prisons. It was given this name because it is said that the prisoners who passed through it during the Inquisition period of the Serenissima sighed at the prospect of seeing the outside world for the last time.
